The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is seeking a dynamic and experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of skilled software engineers developing modern digital products in the AI and infrastructure space. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in full-stack development and cloud-native architectures, primarily Azure & AWS, combined with proven leadership in agile delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends people management with technical guidance, fostering innovation and excellence in digital product delivery.
 

The Team

Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers working on scalable digital products and platforms. 
• Oversee the development, testing, and deployment of custom software solutions, ensuring quality and timeliness. 
• Drive best practices in architecture, design patterns, code quality, and DevOps processes. 
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and AI/ML teams to align technical execution with business goals. 
• Manage sprint planning, backlog grooming, and agile ceremonies to ensure delivery velocity and clarity. 
• Advocate for and implement modern development workflows using tools like AWS, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps. 
• Participate in architectural decisions and provide hands-on technical support where needed. 
• Monitor project progress and proactively resolve technical and personnel issues. 
• Contribute to strategic planning and roadmap development across multiple digital products.

Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or supporting AI/ML-enabled applications. 
• Knowledge of infrastructure, energy, or utility domains. 
• Experience working in a matrixed or enterprise environment with multiple stakeholders 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or associated experience. 
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. 
• Proven experience leading Agile development teams in delivering cloud-native applications. 
• Familiarity with cloud services in Azure and AWS, such as Azure Functions, App Services, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, as well as AWS Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, and S3. 
• Experience with Bitbucket (or Git-based
