Job Summary:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry
- Uses established nursing standards/policies when designing patient care following the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, State and Local requirements, and ANA guidelines.
- Establishes and measures general and unit specific competencies in collaboration with clinical education, and provides opportunity for staff members to achieve their required competencies.
- Ensures staff complete all onboarding requirements.
- Chairs nursing-related committees and councils.
- Provides mentorship for staff enrolled in clinical advancement.
- Use of an electronic medical record
- Establishes an environment to promote ongoing clinical research, inquiry, and expansion of the clinical nursing knowledge base. Uses evidence for best practice
- Facilitates active involvement in recruitment activities, interviews, and candidate selection. Involves staff with the interview process
- Promotes continuous improvement through proactive department auditing and Process Improvement Plan (PIP) requirements. Reporting results at various committees focused on improved quality outcomes.
- Identifies personnel issues, consults with human resource department and/or appropriate manager/director.
- Resolves issues appropriately and completes necessary documentation.
- Is creative with communication to disseminate information in a timely fashion and encourage early and direct input into the decision-making process with all stakeholders
- Facilitates the Unit Advisory Committee activities to address issues relevant to staff members within the unit/department, promoting shared governance.
- Supervises and evaluates work performance of Clinical Resource Nurse in terms of patient care and staff development. Ensures timely and effective evaluation of all unit personnel.

- Ensures timely completion of all employee career interviews.
- Actively participates in routine Leadership rounding with patients and staff.
- Actively participates in Environment of Care (EOC) Rounds, reporting issues for correction.
- Acts as a resource for nursing care areas when acuity and census outweigh resource availability.
- Responsible to monitor and ensure staff compliance with mandatory certifications and education requirements
- Identifies and implements unit goals.
- Participates in meetings to discuss and suggest strategies for improvement in the patient care environment.
- Disseminates outcomes of nurse driven process improvement initiatives and reports out to quality council
- Provides a just culture environment.
- Responds to all safety and or risk events in a timely manner
- Meets requirements of outside regulating agencies, including DNV, CMS, and other agencies as appropriate to the clinical area.
- Monitors and disseminates patient and staff satisfaction scores to unit with a focus on achieving 75th percentile ranking.
- Facilities staff education on regulatory compliance.
- Assures staff is competent in providing culturally diverse care.
- Attends leadership training sessions offered by the Employee Experience Department.
- Monitors unit productivity daily and flexing staff to achieve 98% or better.
- Evaluates staffing patterns annually to meet patient care needs and formulates accurate operating and capital budgets.
- Operates within the budgeted FTEs and maintains position control.
- Identifies reasons for variances and develops action plans.
- Ensures unit schedule is posted on time with adequate staffing to support the needs of the department.
- Promotes certification and membership in a professional organization.
- Maintains active nursing licensure and certifications, required for the department.
- Competes review of assigned policies, providing edits when due and follows the approval process.
- Completes review of assigned contracts annually including assessments as required.
- Other duties as consistent with this role.
Job Requirements
Job Knowledge and Skills
- Registered Nurses working in specialty areas must meet requirements for those specialties as determined by that specific discipline.
- Certification in specialty or Nursing Leadership preferred
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained prior to completion of orientation
Education and Experience
- Current New Hampshire RN license required
- Minimum of 3-5 Years clinical nursing experience required.
- ASN, BSN degree strongly preferred.
- MSN degree preferred.
