Full-time Associate Research Scientist position working within the new analytical chemistry center, ACES, an environmental analytical laboratory providing state-of-the art analytical analysis using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) chemical analysis of water, sediment and biological tissue sponsored by local, state, and federal agencies, as well as organizations from the private sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive expertise in LC-MS/MS techniques and the quantification of diverse pollutants.

Laboratory Manager: Perform numerous duties in conjunction with operation of the environmental analytical laboratory including but not limited to: the extraction and analysis of water, sediment and biological samples for various micropollutants (e.g., PFAS, wastewater tracers, tire compounds, UV filters). Other duties include standard laboratory practices, such as, the maintenance of chemicals and consumables, packing/shipping sample supplies for clients, coordination of data management activities, training of students and seeking out new clients and expanding the analysis portfolio for new emerging contaminants as they arise.

Position will progressively require additional analytical and data management responsibilities. It is envisioned that this laboratory manager will maintain and create a sufficient client base to sustain her/his position over time and become the center’s Director. There are also potential opportunities for career development into a research or tenure-track faculty position. The position is funded for up to two years, the second year contingent on satisfactory performance. Further retention is based on acquiring of funds for the ACES center, including by other CBL
faculty who utilize the center. In the case a Postdoctoral scientist is selected, the position would also allow for the development of new techniques and applications to further expand the centers portfolio.

Occasionally extended hours will be necessary to complete tasks. This is an in person position, telework is not possible for this position.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in chemistry, environmental science, or other relevant natural science. Required analytical chemistry skills in LC-MS/MS techniques, including QAQC. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and within a group.

Preferred Qualifications: Post Ph.D. (post-doc or equivalent) experience in independently running LC/MS-MS and developing new methods.
