Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Career Education, this position will be responsible for advancing students' career development and career mobility by providing effective career coaching and access to relevant information, resources, programs, and connections. The Assistant Director of Media, Arts and Communication (MAC) Career Education leverages and connects students to employers, mentors, and alumni while serving as a career content and programming resource for campus staff and faculty. The Assistant Director will develop, plan, and implement resources, workshops and career community-specific programming that emphasizes career readiness skills.  

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

CAREER COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING

Develop and deliver Career Community Programming on career decision-making, self-marketing, job and internship search, networking, and graduate/professional school. Program events could include workshops, meet-ups, conferences, seminars, presentations, boutique fairs, panels, site visits/road trips, job shadowing, networking events, etc. Effectively collaborate with the external relations team partners in program development and implementation of high impact career practices. Coordinate with other relevant college and Career Center staff regarding marketing, logistics, budget, and assessment. Assist with Career Center's signature programs (i.e., job fairs) and ensure the interests and needs of the College of Fine Arts & Communication (COFAC) are reflected in university-wide career programming. Actively plan and co-manage with external relations team to strategically identify employer and mentor prospects that align with the career options and industry interests of the Career Community. Collaboratively communicate (via visits, phone calls, email, social media, etc.) the value proposition of mentoring and recruiting students for jobs and internships. Foster external constituents' introduction to the external relations team and promote relevant engagement with Career Community faculty and students. With the external relations team, develop a pool of employers, alumni, parents, and others to serve as career mentors.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT/CAREER COACHING

Advance Career Community students' career development and career goal obtainment by providing effective career coaching and access to relevant information, resources, programs, and connections. Meet with students (1:1, groups, etc.) to provide advising and coaching related to major/career decision-making, self-marketing (resumes, interviewing, networking, LinkedIn, etc.), job/internship search, career readiness competencies, and graduate school preparation. Identify, develop, and market Career Community-specific career-related resources. In collaboration with external relations team, connect students to employers, alumni and mentors. Leverage mentors, employers, and alumni to scale service provision. Make referrals to central Career Center staff and college faculty and staff (i.e., Academic Advisor) as necessary. Ensure record keeping on student interactions and assess satisfaction with and effectiveness of interactions while committing to continuous quality improvement of career education services.

CAREER EDUCATION/WORKSHOPS

Review existing resources, identify and customize career education content and contribute to a career-ready toolkit of workshop activities and materials.
