GSPP was created in 1976 to house one of the first Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs in the country, under the Vail (practitioner-scholar) training model. GSPP currently also offers four specialized master’s programs: Forensic Psychology, International Disaster Psychology: Trauma and Global Mental Health, Sport and Performance Psychology, and Sport Coaching, as well as online graduate certificates, an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Sport Studies, and continuing education. GSPP also has a partially affiliated, APA-accredited internship consortium and several in-house and satellite psychology training clinics that serve Denver and the surrounding communities. As a professional school, GSPP promotes and utilizes high-level pedagogy that integrates applied practice, theory, research, and scholarship.

Position Summary

The Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) at the University of Denver seeks a faculty member for a 10-month, tenure-track, assistant-rank position with expertise in military psychology. This position involves significant on campus and in-person responsibilities, as the PsyD program is a residential doctoral program.

The position includes teaching, scholarship, clinical supervision, and service duties. Teaching expectations for tenure-track faculty are typically 18 credit hours over fall, winter, and spring quarters. This faculty member will likely teach three courses about military psychology alongside other core or elective coursework, depending on the candidate’s interest, expertise, and program needs. Teaching loads may be reduced based on grants or other responsibilities.

Scholarship expectations include serving on doctoral paper committees, as well as publications, presentations, research, and/or grant-related work, particularly as it relates to military psychology. This aspect of the position requires community outreach, project development and administration, and engagement with a variety of external funding sources, including grants and philanthropy. Service responsibilities include meeting attendance, participating in PsyD admissions processes, participating in the administration and scoring of competency exams, providing academic advising, attending PsyD events, and serving on university or unit committees. In addition, GSPP requires all faculty and staff to exhibit excellent teaching and pursue professional development to foster a model workplace.

This position reports to the Director of the PsyD Program. Faculty appointments are 10-months (September – June), but because the PsyD program runs year-round, some summer obligations are expected and compensated separately.
