The World Learning/SIT seeks a Resident Assistant to provide ongoing administrative, programmatic and logistical support to the Campus Housing team. The Resident Assistant (RA) is a live in, part time, temporary staff member position in residence halls. RAs serve as peer mentors, community builders, and resource providers to students living in campus housing and are role models/leaders within the campus residence life community. The position requires a balance of administrative responsibilities and personal engagement with residents to foster a supportive and inclusive residential environment.
Responsibilities
Community Building and Development
- Get to know every resident who is a part of the campus residence life community.
- Build a positive and inclusive residential community by fostering relationships among residents.
- Encourage respect, diversity, and a sense of belonging within the residence hall.
- Participate in community events, programs, and activities to promote student engagement and personal growth.
- Be available and approachable to residents in the community, particularly during the evening hours when residents are most likely to be in the residence hall.
Student Support
- Serve as a peer mentor by providing guidance and support for academic, personal, and social challenges.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive student concerns or issues.
- Address and mediate conflicts among residents professionally and promptly.
- Educate and enforce campus and residence hall policies to ensure a safe and respectful living environment.
- Educate residents on community standards and behavioral expectations.
Crisis Response
- Serve in an on-call rotation to respond to emergencies, including health, safety, and security concerns.
- Respond to a range of community incidents including community, student, and facilities issues.and report to appropriate campus administrators and document occurrences as required.
Administrative Duties
- Conduct regular room checks.
- Attend and actively participate in occasional staff meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one check-ins with supervisors related to residence life.
- Complete all administrative paperwork, including incident reports and program planning documents, accurately and on time.
Role Model
- Uphold and model the values and policies of the university both on and off campus.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor as a representative of the residence life team.
Facilities Responsibilities.
- Perform room inspections as scheduled.
