Director, H&W and Leave Administration  

 

Position Description

The Director, H&W and Leave Administration will work closely (and report to) the Senior Director, Benefits with primary responsibilities focused on the development and administration of employee benefit programs that impact the lives of over 90,000 employees and dependents. This position will partner with the internal benefits and leave teams, supported by multiple third-party administrators, service and system partners.  

 

Accountabilities

  • Manage technical interfaces and requirements for core HR systems, 3rd party benefits administrator and carriers/providers.
  • Ensure management and administrative practices follow plan documents, ERISA, Department of Labor regulations and Union Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for all US Health and Welfare Insurance programs.
  • Ensure management and administrative practices follow policies and procedures, State regulations and any special items within the Union Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for all Leave programs.
  • Provide guidance in the interpretation of Health & Welfare and Leave policies and program guidelines to the 3rd party administrators. 
  • Manage both the Health & Welfare and Leave 3rd party Benefits Administration relationship. Drive for continuous improvement, streamline for efficiency and ensure policies and processes are sustained. Provide regular feedback and measure results.
  • Manage H&W Benefit analysts as well as the Global Business Center (GBC) Leave team members. Ensure successful management, execution and delivery of Tenet’s health & welfare and leave benefits as well as providing the team members with critical experiences, meeting and/or exceeding their annual goals and objectives. 
  • Support Health & Welfare Insurance Plan and Leave budgeting and tracking spend. Provide input on forecasting.
  • Support Manager, H&W and M&A execution and maintenance of communications including Summary Plan Descriptions/Summary Material Modifications, Summary Benefit Comparisons, Employee communications and HR training materials by ensuring updated versions are on the appropriate employee and HR sites. 
  • Partner with plan owners to develop, monitor and maintain best in-class operational performance guarantees that align with overall vendor management strategy and objectives.
  • Drive HR capability and support through the creation and timely distribution of effective tools and resources across multiple channels that educates and creates awareness of benefit programs and processes among HRBP.
  • Lead and/or support from an administrative position any ad-hoc benefit projects such as acquisitions, divestitures, and outsourcing transactions.
  • Lead Annual Enrollment process to ensure benefits are delivered accurately and timely by collaborating with key stakeholders and 3rd party vendors.

Key Relationships

  • The Director, H&W and Leave Administration will work closely with (and report to) the Senior Director, Benefits.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure cohesive program design and integrated solutions.
  • Work with Corporate Legal to ensure adherence to plans and policies.
  • Work with HR Business partners and business teams to ensure policy/program/processes meet the needs of the business.
  • Involvement and partnership with HR Ops, Payroll, and IT to bring technology solutions to life. (project specific/Annual Enrollment)
  • Maintain and manage relationships with external vendors and consultant groups to support benefits administration.

Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or Certified Benefit Professional certification a plus.
  • 6+ years professional work experience with at least 5 years in Benefits and Leave Administration  
  • 5+ years managing benefits and leave administration preferred.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of data, develop meaningful insights and recommendations.  
  • Ability to work in a high volume, challenging environment.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills; must be able to prioritize, multitask and manage project deadlines.
