We are looking for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our team.

 

The Microsoft Copilot Studio Applied Science and Research organization is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to contribute to the development and integration of cutting-edge AI technologies into Microsoft Copilot Studio, ensuring they are inclusive, ethical, and impactful.

You will collaborate across product, design, research and engineering teams to bring innovative solutions to life, applying your expertise in machine learning, data science, and software engineering to solve complex problems. Your work will directly influence product quality and customer experiences.

This role will combine machine learning and AI knowledge with software engineering expertise, while demonstrating a growth mindset and customer empathy. Join us in shaping the future of AI agents.

 

You will play a crucial role in developing the Copilot Studio Applied Science and Research team’s direction in machine learning, Generative AI model fine-tuning, Agent creation and deployment, AI evaluation and scaling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure services in the Copilot Studio Runtime.
  • Develop and implement technical strategy to maximize SLA for users interacting with agents
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver end-to-end scenarios that span Azure, M365, and Power Platform ecosystems.
  • Partner with PMs and leadership to align engineering investments with product vision and customer needs.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Data Science and AI experts to transform what it means to build AI-first SaaS.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years experience in service development, successfully shipping software across multiple releases in a SaaS environment.

 

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check. 
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating AI-centric software and services, and familiarity with AI-based orchestration and agent capabilities.
  • Experience building scalable applications and services on Azure or other scalable cloud platforms with robust reliability, resliency, security, and performance.
  • Experience in understanding of identity, access control, and secure service design.
  • Proven track record of technical leadership and delivering complex projects at scale.
  • Proficiency in C#, .NET, or equivalent languages and frameworks.
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.

 

Applied Sciences IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
