Job Summary
The Patient Sitter is responsible for continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients through a non-recording video monitoring system

Reports to:

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients by acting as a 1-1 physical sitter
• Observe potentially life threatening risk behaviors exhibited by suicidal patients; Verbally redirect patient behaviors while notifying nursing staff for assistance
• Monitor patient environment for potential safety hazards, including but not limited to sharp objects and items that could potentially be used for harm
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times
• Participate in hand-off information and patient behavior issues to the next shift. Provide proper notification and hand off of information when patient is cleared from suicidal watch
• All other related assigned duties

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• N/A

Skills and Abilities
• Basic computer skills; Basic Microsoft Office skills necessary
• Able to multi-task and prioritize to meet competing deadlines
• Ability to extend and maintain discretion and confidentiality when working with patients

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This role will interact closely with nursing unit, medical staff, patients, and other hospital departments

Physical Capabilities
Talking and hearing is essential for communicating with patients and nursing staff. Physical demands include sitting for prolonged periods of time, walking, and standing

Environmental/Working Conditions
Work is performed in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled environment. Work assigned may be in a high- risk areas for exposure to blood borne pathogens and other biowaste hazards.
