The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Senior Provider Behavioral Health Consultant, LPC-S. This position has an end date of 8/31/2025, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.

The Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN) and the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN) are an interdisciplinary clinical services program intended to offer primary care clinic providers and OBGYNs prompt access to on-call psychiatrists to provide expertise in assessment, treatment, and referrals for pediatric and/or perinatal patients identified as having a mental health challenge. The Senior Provider Behavioral Health Consultant, LPC-S will work under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, CPAN/PeriPAN. The candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with providers, to work independently with an attention to detail and effective oral and written communication skill, and establish and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders.

This is a federally and state funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). The TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children, adolescents, and perinatal women.

A flexible working arrangement agreement can be accommodated based upon the needs of the program and with supervisor approval. This position may require occasional work on-site for some of the scheduled work week. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable private workspace free from distractions.

Purpose

The Senior Provider Behavioral Health Consultant, LPC-S will provide consultation services to providers, such as pediatricians, family medicine physicians, OB/GYN physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and/or midwives needing assistance with patient behavioral health concerns, psychiatric consultation, behavioral management plans, or resources with the goal of increasing access to mental health services for mothers, children, and adolescents. This position will serve as lead Behavioral Health Consultant and work efficiently to help providers manage mental health concerns and facilitate referrals.

Responsibilities

• Manages and evaluates primary care provider requests in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, behavioral management, and referral assistance according to program protocol. Communicates requests to program psychiatrists within prescribed timeline and provides psychoeducation, referral information, and resources upon request. Standardizes clinical communication while obtaining psychiatry consultative services in the context of youth and perinatal mental health.

• Oversees and collaborates with primary care clinicians, psychiatrists, and program staff on CPAN direct service line. Provides leadership and coordination for consults and referrals for children, adolescents, and mothers with mental health needs.

• Standardizes clinical documentation and communication processes to meet HIPAA standards on program platforms. Leads internal and external clinical trainings on perinatal and child adolescent mental health. Leads case consultations and conducts in-depth case reviews to inform program practices, minimize risks, and standardize clinical service delivery. Follows standard criteria to track project progress and status to ensure they are in line with program objectives.  Participates in supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks. Maintains records and performs data entry as required by protocol.

• Conducts outreach to educate providers and community agencies about CPAN and PeriPAN. Enrolls providers in CPAN and PeriPAN programs to provide services to better assist their patients in need of mental health care.
