Full timePURPOSE OF CONSULTANCY
The burden of diabetes has significantly increased in recent decades. Currently, more than 112 million people are living with diabetes in the Region of the Americas, and it is the third leading cause of Disability-adjusted Life Years (DALYs). This public health challenge demands a comprehensive and urgent response, especially in primary health care (PHC).DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this consultancy is to support the management of the “Integrating Diabetes into Primary Health Care” project, both at the regional level and in selected countries. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Advisor on Diabetes Prevention and Control program, this professional consultant will work on the following:
- Support the development of technical resources to strengthen the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of type 2 diabetes.
- Support the coordination of the translation and publication of the technical products developed within the framework of this project.
- Support the Regional Advisor in organizing and coordinating the training activities contemplated within the framework of this project.
- Support monitoring the virtual courses on comprehensive care for type 2 diabetes published on the PAHO Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH).
- Assist in the development of monthly reports on the progress of the "Integration of Diabetes into Primary Health Care" project and its semiannual report.
- In coordination with the country offices, support the planning and monitoring of project implementation activities developed in two selected countries.
- Support the organization and coordination of all activities related to implementing this project (webinars, meetings, site visits, etc.).
- Assist in the development of dissemination materials related to the project.
- Support the Regional Advisor with other tasks, as needed.
The candidate is expected to demonstrate:
- Project management skills in planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, including excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively with government teams and national and international organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience
Essential: Over three (3) years of experience in diabetes/noncommunicable diseases and public health.
Desirable: Experience working with countries from low- and middle-income settings.
Education:
Essential: University degree in medicine, public health or related discipline.
Desirable: A master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or related fields with noncommunicable diseases from a recognized university.
Travel availability:
Some travel is anticipated as part of this consultancy. However, most meetings will be held virtually.
Languages:
Very good knowledge of Spanish or English, with a working knowledge of the other language.
Contract Duration:
Six (6) months with the possibility of extension.
Location:
The consultant is expected to work remotely, institutionally linked to PAHO/Washington.
Schedule:
Full-time. Work hours will be aligned with PAHO's Washington, D.C. office hours.
Remuneration: US$ 5,166 - US$ 6.273, in line with Pay Band B (Middle).
Method of Payment:
Payments will be made in installments on receipt of deliverables to the satisfaction of PAHO.
