This is a unique opportunity for an inquisitive self-motivated, and creative individual to make a positive impact on Sarasota County. Sarasota County Government is seeking an intern in the Business Services & Analytics department.



This internship offers the opportunity to gain additional experience in Analytics, GIS, CAFM and Business Practices.  Additionally, other learning experiences can be developed in relation to intern’s interest and area of study within the field of Sustainability, Mechanical Engineering, and Project Management.  The program will provide the intern with a constructive review and evaluation of their skills and competencies, providing growth opportunities and direction to further professional and educational development.

Department Responsibilities:

Operational Support / General Duties

  • Assist in the preparation and reporting of data findings and status updates to the Energy and Utility Coordinator.
  • Administrative Support – Provide general administrative support, such as maintaining records, organizing data files, and assisting with documentation related to meter verification projects.
  • Ideal competencies for this position include but are not limited to:
    • Data Validation – Ability to verify and cross-check electrical and water meter data for accuracy.
    • Field Verification – Skilled in conducting site visits to verify existing meter information, including GIS data, site details, and photos.  Capable of adjusting to different tasks, such as field verification or data management, as required by the project.
    • Competence in utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manage and update data.
    • Data Processing – Experience in processing and inputting data into web-based platforms for system updates.
    • Attention to Detail – Ability to meticulously examine and ensure the accuracy of meter data and associated information.
    • Collaboration – Effective coordination with teams (e.g., Energy Team) and colleagues for data validation and project advancement.
    • Technical Communication – Strong skills in communicating data and progress to team members, especially to the Energy and Utility Coordinator.
    • Problem-Solving – Ability to identify discrepancies in data or field information and take appropriate corrective actions. 
    • Time Management – Efficiently managing day-to-day tasks and priorities in a field and office setting.
  • Ability to operate handheld GPS, smartphones, digital cameras, and mobile computing devices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced atmosphere; along with creative problem-solving skills.

Internship Program Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program on Friday, August 8, 2025.
  • Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.
