JOB SUMMARY 

As a significant member of the accounting department, the Senior Accountant performs various responsibilities including complex account reconciliations, prepares daily cash forecast schedules and collaborates with other departments and divisions to support the organization and its mission. This role also requires accurately maintaining financial management of grants and contracts for Goodwill’s Mission Advancement division.  This role requires accurately maintaining a general ledger and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), uniform grant guidance, and additional grant standards and guidelines.  This position is also responsible for the financial management of grants from inception through close out, ensuring that best practices are followed, and spending down is maximized. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Prepares journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assists with monthly-close processes. 
  • Responsible for the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.  Proposes adjustments to management and ensures accuracy of transactions. 
  • Performs monthly bank reconciliations, resolves discrepancies. 
  • Manages and maintains monthly commercial credit card expense reconciliations and ensures compliance with financial policies. 
  • Maintains proper financial records and reporting on each program; review general ledger accounts to capture reimbursable items of various grant/fund. Prepare invoices and journal entries to reconcile general ledger accounts for period-end closing. 
  • Work closely with both the Program & Development teams to create annual budgets and budgets for proposals, complete budget modifications, and monitor actual expenditures versus budget.  
  • In collaboration with the Goodwill team, ensure that the team is prepared for third party external evaluations including data collection and site visit preparation (i.e. CARF, City Monitoring Visits, Bureau for Private and Post-Secondary Education)  
  • Directly manage the monthly logistics and preparation/submission of grant invoices and finical reports?? 
  • Perform reconciliations of GL accounts to ensure grant funding is maximized.  
  • Track grant budgets monthly to ensure funder compliance and maximum utilization; recommend and implement strategies to ensure spending down.  
  • Reconciles monthly grant activities and prepares necessary corrections to ensure proper month-end close and compliance with all GAAP, Federal OMB, and grant standards and guidelines. 
  • Data management: sorting, managing, matching, arranging, maintaining, and updating complex data.  
  • Perform other tasks assigned by department leadership. 
  • Responds to information requests, review financial statements, and assists with audit schedule preparation. 
  • Meets processing and reporting deadlines. 
  • Assists with special projects, as needed. 
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting or finance, or related field required. 
  • 3 years in an accounting or finance position is required. 
  • The candidate must have 3+ years of non-profit accounting and grants management experience, must have great communication skills, be personable, solution oriented, and be able to keep up a fast pace while adapting to frequent change.? 
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, County, and City statutes, rules, policies and procedures 
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and related internal controls. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal  
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Suite programs including Word, Outlook, Teams, etc. 
  • Knowledge of accounting software 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and time management skills 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
