Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

 

 

About the team

 

Would you like to transform London to make it greener, healthier, nature-rich and ready to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies? The Green Infrastructure team works to deliver the Mayor's 'Delivering a Greener and More Climate-Resilient London' mandate and delivery plan. The team delivers against six main projects/workstreams to enable Londoners to enjoy green and wild spaces across the capital and for London to be resilient to extreme weather and the impacts of climate change.

 

We're looking for a Senior Policy and Programme Officer (with potential for further roles) with experience and expertise in different aspects of green infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to help achieve the Mayor's ambition to make London a leader in green infrastructure and urban rewilding, ensure that London remains more than half green and to ensure more Londoners benefit from having green space near where they live.

 

 

About the role

 

The Senior Policy and Programme Officer (Green Infrastructure) will be responsible for managing a portfolio of environmental policy, planning, and project work, with a particular focus on green infrastructure. The role supports initiatives that enhance London’s public spaces, improve access to green areas, strengthen biodiversity, and increase resilience to climate change, while contributing to the delivery of the Mayor’s London Environment Strategy. Working closely with internal teams, local authorities, government departments, external partners, and stakeholders, the post holder helps develop policies, manage projects, build partnerships, secure funding, and provide evidence-based advice on environmental matters.

 

To succeed in this role, candidates require strong knowledge of green infrastructure policy, excellent analytical and research skills, and the ability to understand and address environmental challenges in urban settings.

 

We're looking for an adaptable officer who can pick up multiple workstreams

across the team rapidly. Experience and knowledge in nature recovery, nature

finance, trees and woodlands, waterways and/or partnership working are desirable for this role.

 

Key responsibilities include project and stakeholder management, data analysis, policy development, preparing reports and briefings, and maintaining awareness of legislative and policy changes. The role also demands strong competencies in problem-solving, planning and organising, communication and influencing, relationship building, and organisational awareness, alongside a commitment to equality, diversity, ethical standards, and collaborative working across multidisciplinary teams.

 

 

What your day will look like

  • Translating Mayoral priorities into delivery through policy development, policy influencing and direct delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities for improving funding and finance opportunities for the sector, including by commissioning and leading research and developing relationships.
  • Carrying out project management tasks and managing governance processes to track project spend and timelines, report progress, raise and mitigate risk and issues and facilitate programme decisions.
