Technical Specialist/Sr-Corrosion

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the levels posted, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
Provides advanced specialized technical assistance and expertise of the corrosion control program for the region and guidance to field operations for the execution of the program.
Gives advanced technical support and training to field personnel responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment, including ground beds, rectifiers, test equipment, corrosion coupon installations, etc.
Ensures all installations are within NACE and Northern Natural Gas Co. standards.
Provides new corrosion research data for designing new installations.
Ensures that all corrosion records are kept and maintained according to DOT requirements and NNG standards. Records are kept both by the teams and the corrosion specialist.
Gives advanced support in planning, material requisitions, documentation and field supervision of new projects and work orders.
Keeps abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes regarding corrosion control.
Prepares special reports that document and/or make recommendations regarding the results of special projects or surveys. Conducts facility inspections, reviews records and reports findings to region director and technical services.
Keeps updated on new and existing computer programs available to corrosion control, such as CCR, KAPA, PHD and PIPE.
Distributes programs to technicians and conducts corrosion related training.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Eight or more years of progressive related technical corrosion work experience.
NACE Cathodic Protection Tester Certification (CP1) certification is required. The following certifications are desired;
• Cathodic Protection Technician Certification (CP2)
• Basic Coatings Inspector Certification (CIP Level 1)
• Internal Corrosion Level 1 Course
Excellent working knowledge of and prior experience in corrosion control systems.
Must be familiar with basic operating principles of natural gas transmission facilities.
Computer literacy a must.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to enable incumbent to work closely with corrosion technicians and coordinate work with region directors.
Must possess a high level of commitment and personal initiative.
Will require 60% travel within area of responsibility.
Must support team concept and be able to work well with other team members who are geographically dispersed.
Must be able to adjust to continuously changing priorities.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
