POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
Head Women's Swimming and Diving Coach. Recruit, coach and advise student athletes. Responsible for the integrity of the program and the performance of the team in and out of competition. Community outreach for fundraising and other promotional activities. Work efficiently with other coaches and staff within the university framework. Adhere to all governing body, Conference, State, and University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree in an appropriate are of specialization and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years experience at the high school level or above. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of NCAA, Conference, and UWF rules and regulations. Basic managerial and computer skills. Knowledge of coaching principles.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree preferred with a minimum of two years of collegiate coaching experience or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of four years of collegiate coaching experience. Successful experience recruiting and coaching student-athletes at the NCAA level. Demonstrated experience in monitoring student-athlete academic progress, scheduling, handling team travel, managing a program budget, and fundraising. Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Excellent written and oral skills, knowledge of computer applications, organizational skills, and the ability to work with a diverse population.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
- 51% - Instruct athletes on how to perform the sport of Women’s Swimming. Coordinate and conduct all training, practices, meets for the women’s swimming and diving program. Prepare plans, supervise student assistants, establish team rules and policies, and enforce team discipline. Also, establish a schedule, initiate contracts, coordinate travel and schedule officials for competitions. Adhere to all governing body, Conference, State, and University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by the department or the University of West Florida. - (Essential)
- 19% - Evaluate and recruit student-athletes with the proper academic and athletic background to represent our University in athletic competition. Also, respond to daily inquiries about the swimming and diving program. - (Essential)
- 10% - Monitors the student-athletes’ academic progress by maintaining regular communication with advisers, scheduling study halls, imposing appropriate restrictions, and arranging for supplementary tutoring, when necessary. - (Essential)
- 10% - Manages operating budget for women’s swimming and diving program including all equipment purchases, travel, meals, promotions, awards, and other expenditures, as appropriate. Ensures that the swimming and diving program stays within the approved budget. This may include reviewing general ledger account information for accuracy. - (Essential)
- 10% - Represents the University and the Athletic department at speaking engagements, community and promotional events. Also, coordinates all fund raising activities for promotion of the swimming and diving program in collaboration with University Advancement. - (Essential)
