About the Nutrition Services department: 
The Nutrition Services Department exists to provide quality food service and medical nutrition therapy to more than 1600 clients in a mental health care facility and the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). With over 100 employees, the department strives, within available resources, to provide adequate nutrition to clients based on medical, spiritual, ethnic, cultural, and mental health needs

Examples of duties

About this position:
The purpose of this position is to provide technical, administrative, and operational support within the Nutrition Services Department. The position is responsible for processing patient medical diet orders, translating them into specific menus via specialized nutrition software, coordinating daily staffing coverage/schedules, managing timekeeping processes, and handling food, paper, and office supply requisitions. By managing dietary tasks such as menu modifications and meal orders, the position facilitates communication between Registered Dietitians (RDs) and food service staff at both CMHHIP and CDOC to ensure optimal patient nutritional care. Under the guidance of an RD, the incumbent carries out various clinical and administrative support functions, including entering diet orders into digital systems, producing production reports and tallies (load slips), and managing routine clerical assignments within the department.

Position Duties:
Menus and Medical Diet Orders
  • Assists Lead RDs in developing, editing, and maintaining general and modified menus according to established diet manual, menu guide, and facility requirements.
  • Receives, reviews, and translates medical diet orders into patient-specific menus, including therapeutic, modified texture, allergy, intolerance, cultural, and religious diets; provides menus to RD for final approval.

  • Generates nutrition analysis reports and transfers information into spreadsheets for RD review.

  • Collaborates with dietitians and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care and ensure conformance with diet orders.

  • Enters, updates, and maintains necessary documents and spreadsheets with accurate diet orders, admissions, discharges, and transfers in the diet office and electronic medical record systems.

  • Completes DOC Meal Counts form with facility census changes; track
