Senior Controls Technologist - ASD Scorpius Global Controls

MSTS is seeking an experienced control systems technician (Sr. Technologist) to support engineers and scientists with the installation, operation, and maintenance of controls and communications systems associated with pulsed power machines designed to interrogate explosively driven physics packages on subcritical experiments (SCEs) at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) facility. This position is based in Nevada but requires occasional travel to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LANL), and Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) prior to the accelerator arriving in North Las Vegas for integration testing and final installation and operation at the PULSE facility located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

Key Responsibilities

• Install, operate, and maintain control systems designed to communicate with subsystems of largescale pulsed power machines used as primary diagnostics to interrogate explosively driven physics packages on subcritical experiments (SCEs).
• Install, maintain, validate, and repair control systems and associated instrumentation in research and development settings.
• Install and configure controls systems associated with accelerator vacuum subsystems.
• Install and configure communications systems associated with accelerator vacuum subsystems.
• Setup, configure, operate, and test monitor and control hardware such as relays, transducers, gauges, digitizing data recorders, etc.
• Perform other duties assigned by Management. 

• Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.
• Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement and recording equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
• Basic understanding of software and hardware integration and associated wiring and troubleshooting techniques.
• Fundamental understanding of network communications and database development preferred.
• Familiar with LabVIEW is preferred.
• Ability to work underground is required.
• Ability to work well with others, as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with planning/organizing skills and initiative, and be capable of employing independent judgment and knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed efficiently and on time.
• Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
• Experience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision in a dynamic multidisciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule.
• Experience using standard office software products.

• Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders.
• The primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally p
