Our team is searching for a Senior Technical Manager for Service Fuels to work at our Tarrytown, New York site where we operate our Fuels Laboratory. We are searching for a mechanical engineer or equivalent. The position will lead two engineers. The Senior Technical Manager will be responsible for engine performance tests to evaluate additives for gasoline and diesel fuel. The role includes technical service to customers, advocacy, support strategy implementation, research projects, supporting engine test programs, supporting technical efforts to introduce and commercialize new products, and working within a global team environment that includes R&D, business colleagues and partners.
As a Senior Technical Manager, you create chemistry by...
- Developing, guiding and motivating the team members to execute fuel engineering projects and support service to key clients, business colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Lead strategic projects (e.g., PAVO – next generation fuel additives). Lead the team to provide accurate and credible engine test results that demonstrate the performance of fuels. Identify strategic needs for testing facility upgrades that improve the long-term usefulness and credibility of data being generated.
- Support the team for designing, commissioning, and reporting results of engine dynamometer, vehicle chassis dynamometer and fleet programs. The testing efforts include ASTM protocols, established procedures, and specialty evaluations.
- Be able to take a strategic view of technical issues spanning different areas of knowledge. Provide budget estimates and reporting of projects. Support global and regional strategies and marketing plans.
- Interface with customers during development programs, tenders, and product launches. Translate overall business needs into specific technical targets and deliverables.
- Advocacy. Participate in ASTM, CRC or other industry efforts that complement BASF efforts. Ability to work closely with colleagues in North America and globally.
If you...
- Have earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent blend of knowledge and experience
- Have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in fuels or automotive testing required
- Ability to lead a team of experts and several high-profile projects, reginal and global
- Be able to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally
- Effective interpersonal skills and communication ability written, oral, presentation

Pay Transparency
BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
