What will you be doing?
Campus Safety and Monitoring
- Conduct daily walk-throughs of school buildings to identify and report in writing any safety or operational issues to immediate supervisor.
- Monitor all high-traffic areas including arrival, dismissal, hallways, cafeterias, recess/playgrounds, and parking lots.
- Provide crowd and traffic control during school events and daily routines.
- Monitor security cameras as assigned and respond to facility alarms and emergency incidents as needed.
- Ensure that all visitors are signed in and properly badged through the Main Office.
Emergency Response and Compliance
- Serve as a first responder to First Aid/CPR calls and coordinate with school nurses and emergency personnel.
- Coordinate and execute required monthly safety drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation) in compliance with state codes.
- Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation using non-violent crisis intervention techniques and providing reports directly to School Workers/ Student Support Team/ School Leaders.
- Conduct building sweeps and post outside at designated congregation areas during emergencies.
- Support emergency equipment checks (AED units, emergency kits, door alarms) and ensure readiness.
- Ability to successfully pass unannounced periodic First AID and CPR drills.
Student Support and Accountability
- Enforce hall pass and building access policies.
- Supervise and redirect student behavior using preventative strategies to reduce Tier 3 infractions.
- Complete written incident reports and collaborate with school administration on student discipline matters.
- Support attendance follow-up and prevention of student skip patterns and chronic absenteeism.
- Help ensure zero incidents involving drugs or weapons during or after school events.
School Culture and Equity
- Model high emotional intelligence, professionalism, and equity-driven practices when engaging with students and families.
- Use cultural responsiveness to ensure unbiased, respectful interactions with all scholars.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and the school community
- Partner with leadership and operations staff to proactively prevent conflicts and safety concerns.
Break down of Day
- 85% Security walkthroughs and ensuring safety of building
- 10% Arrival and dismissal of students
- 5% Documentation and reporting
What do we require from you?
- 2+ years of experience in school safety, security, or first responder roles preferred
- Crowd Control and Traffic Control experience preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Computer Literacy skills with Google Suite
- CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Valid SORA License preferred (or willingness to obtain based on assignment)
- Valid NJ driver’s license and reliable transportation
