About the role

This position will support collaborative research for investigators in the Johns Hopkins Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health. We are seeking a Research Data Analyst who will work individually and collaboratively on the preparation, management, and statistical analysis of data derived from several sources, including but not limited to cohort and epidemiologic observational studies, randomized controlled trials, and administrative claims data.


Additionally, the Analyst will provide support on the study design and preparation of research manuscripts and scientific presentations in which they will participate as a co-author. Under the supervision and guidance of biostatisticians, faculty, and other analytic staff, the Analyst will work with investigators from the Center and outside research collaborators on the design and drafting of statistical analysis plans for research studies. As part of the preparation or research manuscripts and scientific presentations, the Analyst should be able to work with data to produce summary tables and figures, while also be capable of writing and interpreting statistical results.


The analyst would also be in charge of generating data reports for quality assurance (recruitment, data quantity, data quality) for diverse Center studies.


Compliance with procedures in accordance with reproducible research is required.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • To produce statistical code for data management (cleaning, restructuring, and merging of data sets) in accordance with reproducible research.
  • Use a statistical software package to code for and run statistical analyses on cross-sectional, and longitudinal data. Ample statistical knowledge of linear and logistic regressions is required.
  • Under the supervision and guidance of biostatistician, faculty, and staff, plan and carry out more advanced statistical analyses.
  • Support statistical analyses across multiple studies with varying study designs and analytic needs.
  • Interpret, summarize, and present analyses in various formats including raw output, tables, graphs, scientific manuscripts and well as oral and written reports.
  • Create and maintain documentation of statistical methods and programming code.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external investigators across multiple study teams and proactively bring questions and concerns to the team.
  • Identify potential problems with study data and collaborate with research team to resolve issues encountered.
  • Assist in preparing materials for and participate in investigators' meetings, Steering Committee meetings, etc.
  • Complete other as-needed data programming and analysis
  • Attend Center meetings and provide updates on status of reports, papers, and other work responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1-year related experience in a work or academic setting or demonstrated ability on significant graduate school project.
  • Experience performing biostatistical analyses, including categorical, longitudinal and survival data; SAS, STATA, and/or R programming; technical/scientific writing for medical publications to describe results and statistical methods required.
  • Prior experience with database management.

Starting Salary Range: Min $47,500 - Max $83,300 Annually ($55,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
