The Department of Consumer Sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor to collaborate with existing faculty to expand undergraduate and graduate programs in family financial planning and counseling.

The Department of Consumer Sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor to collaborate with existing faculty to expand undergraduate and graduate programs in family financial planning and counseling. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses on campus and online; serve on department, college, and university committees; mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and seek external funding to support teaching and service activities that support financial planning and counseling education at the University of Alabama.

The successful candidate will have completed a doctoral degree in financial planning or a closely related field. The successful candidate must provide evidence of effective teaching, involvement with relevant professional organizations, experience developing and teaching both online and on-campus graduate courses in financial planning, and experience collaborating with financial planning firms.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and service in numerous ways that support the University’s mission. Responsibilities include:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate financial planning courses in persona and online, including a) Into to Personal Financial Planning, b) Time Value of Money, c) Personal Insurance Planning, d) Personal Investment Planning, e) Personal Estate Planning, f) Personal Income Tax Planning, g) Financial Counseling, and other courses to meet department needs.
• Secure external resources (grants, in-kind support) that support financial planning programs and students.
• Work cooperatively with the department chair, undergraduate coordinator, and graduate coordinator to cultivate effective relationships with local, regional, and national financial planning firms.
• Recruit, mentor, and advise undergraduate and graduate financial planning and counseling students.
• Engaging in service on Department, College, University, and professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications: Applicants must have a strong background in financial planning and counseling.
• A Ph.D. in financial planning or a closely-related field is required.
• Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in financial planning, including personal investment planning, retirement planning, and financial counseling is required.
• Demonstrated success mentoring financial planning students at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
• Demonstrated success developing online and in-person undergraduate and graduate financial planning courses is required.

Preferred Qualifications
• CFP® certification is preferred. • A J.D. and experience teaching personal estate planning is preferred.
