Job Description

As Privacy Counsel on the Vialto Partners legal team, you will join a talented team of dedicated legal professionals.  As a member of the team, you will play a critical role in helping shape the Vialto Partners global data protection program and supporting our global data protection contracting efforts.  This position will report to the Global Head of Privacy and Data Protection. 

Primary responsibilities:

As Privacy Counsel, you will work as part of a team dedicated to building and maintaining a world class data protection program, with responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Reviewing and negotiating privacy provisions in client, vendor and other third-party contracts, including data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, access agreements and information security agreements
  • Acting as a legal subject matter expert for federal, state and global privacy and data protection laws and regulations applicable to Vialto Partners’ global operations
  • Reviewing relevant privacy policies, privacy statements and related documentation and updating as needed in response to changes in applicable law and/or business operations
  • Partnering with the risk management teams to investigate potential privacy incidents and coordinate incident response efforts (when applicable), leveraging outside counsel as needed
  • Coordinating responses to data subject access requests
  • Preparing, socializing and implementing legal guidelines for various business groups governing data use and data protection
  • Managing multiple priorities in the allocated time and meeting deadlines 
  • Executing duties with significant attention to detail and maintaining high quality standards
  • Identifying and proposing recommendations to mitigate risks or issues that arise on active cases
  • Adhering to risk management and compliance procedures
  • Communicating regularly and professionally with internal colleagues
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization

Qualifications

  • Juris doctor or equivalent international law degree, depending on location
  • Active legal license in good standing to practice law in an in-house legal department  
  • 5+ years of experience negotiating global data protection agreements and handling global data protection matters
  • Current knowledge of global privacy law, cybersecurity, incident response frameworks and data protection best practices
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prior law firm experience and/or in-house experience at a multinational company
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including in remote work settings
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure and under strict deadlines
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to share and collaborate effectively with other members of the legal team
  • CIPP certification(s) a plus, but not required
  • Flexibility to work outside normal working hours may be required based on volume of work
