Project/Unit Description

The Communications Engineer with a particular focus on Test and Evaluation in the Test Engineering (TEN) Division will serve as an on-site liaison to the United States Space Force (USSF) National Space Test and Training Complex (NSTTC) Integrated Program Office (IPO), supporting the planning and requirements development for the NSTTC EMSO.

Job Purpose

Research, design, development and prototyping of communications equipment and systems. Utilizing experience and knowledge of end-to-end communications systems to architect novel and robust communications systems including emerging software-defined radio platforms and other emerging commercial communication systems and advanced tactical networks. Establish key performance requirements for various target radios across multiple operating bands, environments and targeted applications. Develop, implement, characterize and test leading-edge waveform and communications technologies enabling greater performance while enhancing EW capabilities through secure communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary author of technical reports/presentations for projects of moderate/high complexity
  • Compile report input from other researchers and prepare final report deliverable
  • Lead and/or contribute to white papers and proposals
  • Propose and lead IRAD programs
  • Create and analyze network protocols

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop roadmaps for Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) test and training infrastructure at the NSTTC
  • Determine needs and methods for integration of NSTCC EMSO activities with other test and training ranges
  • Recommend methodologies and specific infrastructure to perform test and evaluation activities and crewmember training for space warfighting systems
  • Provide detailed requirements development and decomposition to implement NSTTC EMSO recommendations, down to key performance parameters
  • Source and manage GTRI resources to accomplish above responsibilities

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Space, electronic warfare, or electronic communications experience that includes either operations, test, maintenance of mission, or test range systems
  • Proficient in relation to the development and publication of technical reports
  • Strong analytical and briefing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Experience with space test and evaluation and electronic warfare test and evaluation
  • Technical familiarity with relevant satellite programs such as communication, navigation, and other space-related programs
  • Experience with communication systems
  • Experience with electronic warfare threat systems
  • Experience with roadmapping, preacquisition support, requirements development, test planning
