Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Tech III performs general and preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations on all Ringling College of Art and Design buildings, structures and equipment. This role encompasses a range of tasks involving carpentry, painting, plumbing electrical and HVAC systems. Skills in plumbing are especially desirable. The Maintenance Technician ensures that all assigned duties are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs, and similar or related tasks may be assigned as necessary. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties as required.

  • Knowledge of toilet installation, sink installation, drain-line installation, water supply line installation, unclogging drains, reading drain-line blueprints, understanding of general plumbing basics.
  • Performs general building maintenance tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, general painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC preventative maintenance programs.
  • May perform other tasks to include repairs or prepare surfaces for work by covering surfaces, removing and replacing fixtures, erecting scaffolding or setting up ladders.
  • Cleans all equipment and areas where work performed; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies necessary tasks assigned.
  • Installs, repairs, adjusts, and maintains all equipment of the College in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records of all work performed.
  • Assists in moving boxes, desks, tables, and other items as assigned.
  • Adhere to College policies and regulations.
  • Performs duties safely and efficiently.  Reports unsafe and adverse conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attends classes and seminars as directed to update skills.
  • In addition, this position may be required to come into work on weekends, holidays and in emergency situations (i.e., subject to “on-call” responsibilities).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge and skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC trades.
  • Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and materials list.
  • Proficiency is using trade appropriate tools.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate, and communicate options and possible solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively and follow detailed instructions
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communicate skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work assigned, additional and on-call hours as required.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and general maintenance repairs.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
