Position Overview
Serves as the first-line supervisor for nursing staff, providing 24-hour accountability for overseeing patient care delivery, staff performance, and unit operations in accordance with established standards and policies. Acts as a liaison among residents, families, staff, and the interdisciplinary team to promote high-quality, holistic care while supporting staff development through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the first line supervisor to the nursing staff in their assigned area.
- In accordance with established standards and administrative policies, functions as a nursing supervisor on assigned shift and unit with 24-hour accountability to supervise the delivery of care by evaluation, assessments, procedure, and outcome.
- Provides direction and control to all personnel relative to improvement of unit management and patient care.
- Acts as liaison between resident, families, staff and the Interdisciplinary Team in order to provide realisticholistic care to the resident.
- Conducts in-service training classes and unit meetings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned that are within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in nursing.
- Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization
- Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and of recent developments in the field of nursing.
- Extensive knowledge of public and business administration principles and practices; agency programs and service objectives, activities, and operational systems; staff utilization and employee motivation; labor and employment development; agency and procedures.
- Three (3) years experience developing and managing a supportive agency program; analyzing administrative problems and adopting an effective course of action; developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards.
- Three (3) years experience exercising judgement and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures; estimating and budgeting for future needs and cost of personnel, space, equipment, supplies and services; developing and maintain cooperative working relationships.
