Sr. Director Enterprise Financial Planning & Analysis

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held organization, with roots firmly planted in agriculture and agriculture-related businesses. We are a true farm-to-table company with operations that touch every aspect of agriculture, including seed production, farming and ranching, plant sciences, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, commercial product development, and distribution. 

Summary

This role leads the Enterprise Financial Planning and Analysis department.  The EFP&A team is responsible for the consolidation, analysis, and effective communication of the forward-looking financial information of The JR Simplot Company.  This information is used by the Simplot Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and other senior stakeholders to understand the financial outlook of the organization and make decisions such as capital investment, debt financing, acquisition/divestiture, and response to the economic environment.  This role is also responsible for JRS Capital Investment Planning and approval process.

Key Responsibilities

Leads the Enterprise Financial Analysis Department and business unit FP&A teams in the execution and continuous improvement of consolidated financial planning at JRS.  This includes assessment, scoping, and implementation of new software applications in SAP Analytics Cloud, maintenance and improvement of existing technology, business process standardization and optimization, and improving the quality of analysis.

• Planning and Valuation: Consolidated budgets and forecasts for five business units comprising >$8B in revenue for 12month, 3 year, and 10-year horizons.  Scenario analysis and assessment of investments under consideration, and liquidity management and KPIs
• Capital Planning: Approval, compliance, post-audit, forecasting, and variance analysis for >2500 projects $500M-$1B annual spend 
• Global Services Business Partnering: Budgeting, department reporting, monthly forecasting and decision support for Global Finance, HR, IT & Data Sciences, Global Solutions, and Plant Sciences (>$300m budget)  

 

Works with CFO and Sr. Leadership on the preparation of materials for the Board of Directors, Simplot Leadership Team, Executive Committee, and additional internal/external Sr. stakeholders.

• Financial outlook, decision analysis and recommendations
• Participate in periodic earnings and outlook presentations to lenders and or/noteholders with Treasurer and CFO.  

 

Lead valuation activities at JRS with internal resources and third parties, including maintaining standard valuation guidelines, models, inputs, and processes

• Capital Planning Policy and Procedures 
• Transaction valuations
• Responsible for project valuations, recommendation, and approval for growth projects from $5m to >$500m
• JRS annual company & segment valuation
• Asset retirement obligations & impairment assessments
• ROIC analysis and process management 

 

Member of Global Finance Leadership Team, participating in activities like strategic planning, career planning and performance management, all hands quarterly business reviews, and change management.  Facilitate quarterly finance review process between Global Finance and Business unit finance teams to communicate forecast impact and coordinate response.  
 

Typical Education

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
• Master's degree or equivalent is preferred

Relevant Experience

• 15+ years related experience and/or training
• Effective performers will demonstrate initiative, mental acuity, agility, strong management skills and good judgment. 
• A process mentality and experience working in Sales and Operations Planning management systems is helpful. 
• The ability to direct, organize and execute through numerous indirect teams is essential.  
• The role requires proficiency in financial modeling techniques and principles, strategic ability to understand the business issues and opportunities for a multi division food and agriculture company, the ability to identify and accurately assess internal and external business risks, exceptional communication skills, and proven project leadership experience.
