About the Role
As an Architecture & Requirements Summer Intern, you will support the development of system and software architecture and requirements artifacts for complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives. This individual contributor role provides hands-on exposure to real-world architecture practices spanning modern software platforms such as Android, Linux, and real-time embedded systems. You will also gain exposure to vehicle architectures, in-vehicle networking, and engineering considerations related to functional safety and cybersecurity. In addition, you will contribute to the development of AI-assisted tooling and automation to improve how architecture and requirements work is performed. In this role, you will report to a manager within the Architecture & Requirements organization.
What You Will Do
- Support the development and refinement of system, software, and stakeholder requirements across complex embedded and software-intensive systems.
- Assist with the creation of system and software architecture artifacts such as diagrams, functional decompositions, and interface definitions.
- Gain exposure to software architecture spanning modern platforms including Android, Linux, and real-time embedded environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, safety, cybersecurity, quality, and product to support technical alignment.
- Participate in architecture and requirements reviews, technical discussions, and design walkthroughs.
- Contribute to documentation and artifact management using tools such as Confluence, Jira, SharePoint, and SysML/UML modeling tools.
- Support analysis related to vehicle architectures and in-vehicle networking concepts.
- Assist with identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or improvement opportunities in architecture and requirements artifacts.
- Help design and prototype AI-assisted tooling to improve workflows such as requirements quality, traceability, documentation generation, and artifact analysis.
- Develop lightweight proofs of concept (scripts, workflows, automation, or prototypes) to support process and tooling improvement.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Completed coursework in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Interest in system and software architecture, embedded systems, or large-scale software platforms.
- Basic understanding of software development concepts and system design principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to organize complex information and produce clear written documentation.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn about topics such as Android, Linux, real-time systems, vehicle architectures, functional safety, and cybersecurity.
- Interest in applying AI or automation to improve engineering productivity.
Bonus Points if You Have
- Completed coursework or projects involving embedded systems, operating systems, computer architecture, or distributed systems.
- Exposure to automotive or mobility topics such as vehicle architectures, in-vehicle networking, ADAS, infotainment, or software-defined vehicles.
- Familiarity with concepts related to functional safety (i.e., ISO 26262) or cybersecurity.
- Exposure to UML, SysML, or requirements engineering practices.
- Experience using tools such as Confluence, Git, or modeling tools like Enterprise Architect.
- Experience experimenting with AI tools, large language models, automation workflows, or building prototypes.
What Makes You Eligible
