JOB Summary:
The Security Associate assigned to the Women’s Program plays a critical role in fostering a secure, trauma-informed, and empowering environment for women in recovery. This position is grounded in the principles of compassionate engagement, emotional regulation, and boundary-conscious vigilance. The ideal candidate is more than just a protector—they are a stabilizing presence, ensuring that all women feel respected, seen, and safe as they reclaim their lives.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Security Operations
- Ensure the safety of clients, staff, and visitors within the Women’s Program residential facility, including monitoring of entrances, hallways, and common areas.
- Conduct routine rounds with vigilance and discretion, maintaining a trauma-informed and non-intimidating presence.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to disturbances, emergencies, or breaches of program rules, always prioritizing de-escalation and dignity.
- Maintain strict awareness of gender-specific safety protocols, including supporting survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, and other trauma.
- Actively monitor facility to prevent unauthorized access, contraband, or unsafe behaviors.
Trauma-Informed Engagement
- Build trust through calm, professional, and empathetic interactions with participants.
- Practice grounding techniques and emotional regulation in all encounters, especially during high-stress or emotionally charged situations.
- Use strength-based, non-punitive language in addressing behavioral concerns.
- Understand triggers common to survivors of trauma and avoid coercive or escalating tactics unless safety is at risk.
Collaboration & Team Communication
- Communicate regularly with case managers, residential staff, and the Security Supervisor to ensure alignment and shared understanding of participant needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and trainings related to trauma-informed care, recovery support, and de-escalation strategies.
- Maintain shift logs and incident reports with clarity, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Support the facilitation of conflict resolution between participants, with guidance from program staff when appropriate.
Emergency & Crisis Response
- Serve as first responder to safety issues, including medical emergencies, interpersonal conflict, or suspected violations of program expectations.
- Contact emergency services when needed and provide support until their arrival.
- Escort clients off premises respectfully when necessary, ensuring post-incident documentation and follow-up communication with program staff.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in security, de-escalation, shelter/housing programs, or trauma-informed care preferred.
