About the Role
Zipline builds and operates fleets of delivery drones to get critical and life-saving products, fast, to where they’re needed. To power this, our software team is building out long term, scalable solutions to expand rapidly, while empowering our world class distribution centers to serve our customers as fast as possible. As a lead, you will be responsible for setting the course for your team, building roadmaps with your customers, and helping grow the impact of the folks you support.
We’re looking for an engineering lead excited to lead a small but mighty team of software engineers responsible for our Fleet Applications. These tools are the core toolkit that our operations team use to interact with our deployed fleet of assets in real time. The tools visualize our fleet of autonomous vehicles, enable interaction with the vehicles via high level commands and visualize contextual information about the state of the fleet and the health of our assets. You will work on the applications that let us wrangle an ever growing fleet, with expanding autonomy capabilities. Our ideal candidate works well in startup environments, is comfortable wearing many hats, and can work with other engineers on the team to produce impressive results.
What you'll do in this role
- Lead a team of 5+ engineers at different points in their career
- Work across engineering, operations, and program management to deliver outsized results and guide the next generation of autonomous aircraft
- Hire, mentor, and grow excellent engineers
- Hold a high bar for engineering best practices
- Help define the vision for our Fleet Applications in conjunction with your customers internally
What you'll bring
- 9+ years experience in software engineering
- 3+ years as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role directly managing teams of 3+ engineers in a fast-paced environment. Hands on technical leadership with a strong software engineering background.
- An understanding of backend or full stack development and microservice architecture
- A track record of building and leading software teams focused on cloud applications
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership
- Previous experience in autonomy, robotics, or hardware is nice to have but not required
What else you need to know
The starting cash range for this role is $170,000 - $210,000. Please note that this is a target, starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role. The final cash pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, working location, and projected impact. The total compensation package for this role may also include: equity compensation; discretionary annual or performance bonuses; sales incentives; benefits such as medical, dental and vision insurance; paid time off; and more.
