We anticipate the application window for this opening will close on - 28 November 2025.Medtronic’s Grand Rapids manufacturing site is searching for a driven and innovative Senior Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in the design and development of cutting-edge medical device products. In this strategic leadership role, you’ll oversee all phases of product development – from initial concept through market release – while ensuring the highest standards of quality, reliability, and technical excellence.
You’ll play a critical part in guiding the exploration and evaluation of new technologies, methodologies, and materials, driving the conceptualization and implementation of advanced processes and products. Your responsibilities will include managing feasibility studies to ensure new designs perform as intended and overseeing rigorous documentation maintenance throughout the research and development lifecycle.
The Senior Engineering Manager will also lead the development and maintenance of technical quality assurance systems, coordinate activities with external suppliers and consultants to ensure timely project delivery, and select, develop, and mentor team members for optimal performance and growth. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience
OR
An advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
Nice to Have
Experience with medical device product development and regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO 13485, etc.)
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Expertise in Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes
Hands-on experience leading
