Summary
The Enterprise Business Systems Manager at the New York Power Authority plays a critical role in overseeing and enhancing the enterprise’s portfolio, program, and project management tools and systems. This position involves the comprehensive management of system operations, maintenance, and support, ensuring seamless integration with the latest technologies.
The role requires active engagement with subject matter experts (SMEs) in both IT (including the responsible IT Product Managers) and the various Business Units (our internal customers), facilitating effective communication and collaboration amongst all key stakeholders. A key responsibility includes managing relationships with software service providers, especially SaaS vendors, and overseeing service-level agreements, support services, product enhancements, and product roadmap development.
Additionally, the Manager will participate in technology customer advisory boards (or equivalent) to stay updated on the newest features and capabilities of such systems. The role also demands acting as a data steward, overseeing system integrations, middleware, and the governance, reporting, and analytics platforms related to enterprise portfolio, program, and project management.

Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the collection of business systems documentation and requirements for IT support.
- Support IT in obtaining sign-off of business requirements.
- Liaise with program/project managers, internal customers, functional analysts and developers as appropriate to ensure solution design and implementation is in line with the business requirements.
- Lead the development of business cases outlining cost impacts and value drivers of proposed solutions.
- Manage and hold collaborating teams accountable in the preparation of feasibility studies and cost estimates.
- Manage the team responsible for business system solutions including strategic direction, performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing.
- Manage business systems budget as well as development of future budgets.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess a strong understanding of information systems, business processes, the key drivers and measures of success for business and the short- and long-term direction of the business and technology.
- Knowledge of IT industry trends including cloud hosting, hardware, software (package or development) – in particular project management software, analytics and reporting tools, data warehouse, application tools and market intelligence.
- Knowledge of application lifecycle development methodology; ability to manage large project efforts across business units.
- Strong managerial and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups and upper management of the business unit.
- Ability to coordinate efforts of internal staff, research groups, external stakeholders, and consultants to reach goals within a set budget and timeline.
- Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to lead teams and use them to execute strategic business initiatives and provide tactical planning.
- Ability to develop and present new business practices to Senior and Executive staff when appropriate. Demonstrated ability to effectively develop business processes and team coordination.
- Strong decision-making skills: able to way various options and efficiently determine and make the case for the recommended action and then act.
- Good oral and written communication skills; good negotiating skills to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all stakeholders.
- Ability to problem-solve and effectively operate within a large, dynamic environment with experience in senior level administrative management.
- Ability to motivate, coach, develop and lead a team is required as well as ability to develop strong working relationships with other groups within NYPA.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, Business, or closely related technical field is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in IT / Business Process Development.
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience within various IT disciplines which may include one or more of the following: business analysis, functional analysis, and/or application development.
- Experience within the energy services industry is preferred.
- Prior management/supervisory experience preferred.
