NPM is looking for an exceptional AI Data Scientist 1/Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team and drive innovation toextract and synthesize information from unstructured clinical notes. As an AI Data Scientist at NPM, you will play a pivotal role in leveraging AI to automate clinical tasks and ultimately improve patient outcomes. You will be responsible for developing, validating, and implementing cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, including use of Large Language Models (LLM) applied to diverse healthcare data sources, e.g. electronic medical records and to generate medical reports.
Your primary responsibilities will involve developing, testing, validating, and fine-tuning AI models to ensure their accuracy in predicting outcomes of interest. You will compare model performance using statistical metrics and demonstrate their effectiveness through rigorous statistical analysis and error estimation. You will collaborate in cross-functional teams to identify key areas where AI solutions can drive significant business benefits, all while maintaining the highest ethical standards in AI and ML. In your role, you will be heavily involved in coding prototypes and building user-friendly analytics tools. Role Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement novel AI machine learning algorithms in the area of Large Language Models (LLMs) and/or Computer Vision models to provide automation of clinical tasks using one or more of data domains (e.g. medical images, electronic medical records, clinical reports, etc.).
  • Collaborates with NPM’s staff across Clinical Science, Digital Health, Software Engineering, Data Science, and Informatics to detail AI model functionality and requirements to significantly increase efficiency in the areas of document control, clinical information extraction, information synthesis and clinical note preparation.
  • Understands company and client challenges and how integrating AI capabilities can help lead to solutions.
  • Builds AI models that explicitly learn from human feedback and assist humans in evaluating AI model output accuracy.
  • Codes prototypes to enable development of high-performance AI algorithms in scalable, near production ready code.
  • Collaborates with Software Engineering to move proof of concept solutions to production ready code.
  • Writes appropriate statistical design and analysis plans in the development of AI products that includes the appropriate test, validation and formulation to ensure increasing accuracy in prediction.
  • Demonstrates that algorithms meet quality and accuracy requirements through statistical analyses and error estimation.
  • Documents code and lessons learned across the software product life cycle, including key decisions, explorations, and experiments. 
  • Stays current on published state-of-the-art algorithms and competing technologies.
  • Applies safeguards and protections in line with HIPAA and applicable privacy laws and adheres to relevant compliance, quality, security, privacy, legal, and ethical standards when it comes to the use of AI.

Education, Experience, Behavioral Competencies, & Skills

  • BSc/MSc graduate in the field of engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, statistics, or relevant field of study.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in AI data science.
  • Polyglot coder with hands-on development experience across modern programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Java, C++, …).
  • Familiarity of and documented experience with at least one deep learning framework applied in the context of LLMs or Computer Vision (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.). 
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the healthcare data domain in at least one
