Are you passionate about education, governance, and making a difference in your community? Hugh Baird College is seeking two individuals to join our Corporation Board as Designated Governors for Finance and Audit.
These are charitable, unpaid roles, offering a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a thriving educational institution.
About the Roles

Finance Governor
Join Hugh Baird College at an exciting time in its journey to Outstanding Financial Health. As a volunteer Governor for Finance, you’ll use your financial knowledge to support strategic planning and ensure resources are used effectively. You’ll contribute to a supportive team, helping to promote transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. -
Audit Governor
Support Hugh Baird College’s progress toward Outstanding Financial Health by helping review risk management and internal controls. As a volunteer Governor for Audit, you’ll offer a fresh perspective to strengthen transparency and good practice. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, with guidance provided, ideal for someone with a keen eye and a desire to make a difference.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with:- Professional qualifications in finance, audit, or accountancy (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIA)
- Willingness to learn and adapt: Open to gaining new knowledge about governance and the education sector, even if not previously familiar.
- Strong analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills
- A collaborative and inclusive approach to governance
- Commitment to equality, safeguarding, and continuous development
Time Commitment
- Dependent upon your role as governor, you will normally be asked to attend a minimum of 4 (if a co-opted governor) to 8 meetings in an academic year.
- Most of these meetings will be held from 5.00 pm onwards.
