About the role
Overview: Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Construction Services Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.
As a Construction Quality Control Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and managing a Quality Control Program per the specifications and Project QC Plan.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing • Lifting and/or moving up to 35 lbs regularly on average, and up to 75 lbs on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation • This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles. • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform QC Manager duties per FDOT 105 specification
- Compile log books, QC plans, and job guide schedules
- Provide project management on Contractor Quality Control FDOT projects, including delegation of tasks to Asst. QC Manager, budget review, and communication with contractors
- Provide problem solving and resolution on project issues
- Manage and oversee 15-20 CQC certified staff, including employee management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions, as required
- Timesheet review, annual employee reviews, and commutation with technicians regarding performance, oversee class sign ups for additional certifications, repayment agreements, check requests, as well as productivity, invoicing, and reporting
- Create proposals and work orders for all DOT projects that arise
- Identify safety concerns on project sites
- Review and train staff on Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for general information and specific projects
- Maximizes long and short term profits for Testing Lab & Construction Services Department.
- Performs marketing and coordinates with the marketing department; meets with and solicits business from clients
- Supervises, hires, fires and evaluates employees.
- Quotes costs and fees to clients; prepares proposals and reports
- Coordinates personnel and equipment within the branch
- Qualifications:Travel to various job sites in a company-provided vehicle
- Perform inspections related to construction materials testing
- Document field activity and report the findings to clients and supervisors
- Communicate with multiple field personnel and clients
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years related professional experience
- FDOT CTQP Earthworks I & IIFDOT CTQP Concrete Level I & II
- FDOT CTQP Pile Driving
- FDOT CTQP Drilled Shaft
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, FDOT Log Book Software, FDOT MAC
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
- Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from a four-year college or university
- Experience in the effective use of scheduling and cost-control techniques
- Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
- Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
- Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of meas
