The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Senior Physician - Primary Care Supervisor. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. 

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This is a professional position in a maximum security forensic mental health facility. The incumbent is expected to maintain a positive and professional attitude and manner at all times ensuring individuals receive comprehensive medical and mental health services in a cost effective, customer-oriented manner. The incumbent will follow all medical ethics and standards in an outcome oriented management system, while maintaining sensitivity to the constitutional rights of patients.
  • This is advanced professional work supervising and directing employees. The primary duty of the incumbent in this position is to spend the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports.  Evaluates employees against established standards and takes appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.).
  • Conducts physical examinations on new admissions and annually thereafter, in accordance with Department of Children and Family (DCF) Operating Procedures and NFETC policy and operating procedures, documenting completely, accurately, and legibly. Performs general medical diagnostic and prescriptive work for all residents in accordance with standards.
  • Ensures that preventive practices and procedures are followed in accordance with DCF Operating Procedures for Preventive Medicine.
  • Refers residents to medical specialists and facilities in the community for necessary treatment and insures that diagnostic, treatment, and consultative reports are evaluated and utilized
  • Employee attends yearly training in the following: CPR, First Aid, Mandt, Bloodborne Pathogens, Biomedical Waste
