Acuity International currently seeks a technical, strategic, and operational focused Director of Accounting to be a key financial leader at Acuity and a close partner to the VP of Business Services.
Reporting to the VP of Business Services, the Director of General Accounting is responsible for general accounting, technical accounting, financial reporting, financial close processes, and audit oversight. The position is responsible for ensuring company accounting procedures and reporting conforms to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
The Director of General Accounting will have primary responsibility for the GL team, financial reporting/compliance certifications, and will be the lead audit POC. The new Director of General Accounting should be prepared to partner closely with a highly engaged VP of Shared Services, CFO, CEO, and PE Sponsor.
The Director of General Accounting must have excellent management, mentorship, and leadership skills, a successful track record of working in a government contracting environment, as well as improving critical business, financial and accounting processes that deliver tangible results. The Director of General Accounting must have a strong ability to work collaboratively across the organization. S/he must be effective in hiring and retaining talent and managing growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance on and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and company practices and policies.
- Provide leadership and oversight across the GL team, technical accounting, and financial reporting.
- Enhance, develop, implement, and enforce financial processes, policies, and procedures for the company that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the business.
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place, ensure compliance with GAAP, applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Oversee the monthly internal financial reporting process.
- Manage the quarterly compliance certification process.
- Manage the preparation of the quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements.
- Lead efforts to resolve financial issues, manage audit activities and focus on primary accounting and management reporting processes.
- Create reports that help senior leadership understand company financials.
- Drive process improvements and standardization of key business processes.
- Oversee the documentation and evaluation of compliance with Government regulations.
- Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 12 years progressive experience in government contract accounting.
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, finance or related field is required. A Master’s Degree or MBA and CPA are highly preferred.
- Understanding of applicable laws and regulations; particularly in Government Contracting.
- Relevant professional and industry experience related to FAR/CAS, Forward Pricing Rate Agreements (FPRA), Audit, and Government compliance.
- Knowledge of federal regulation on taxes and reporting.
- Prior experience in Deltek Costpoint and Time and Expense (T&E).
- Experience in budgeting, planning, rate development.
- Proven experience in financial project accounting.
- Understanding of financial data analysis and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
- Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills.
