About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Division of Geriatrics seeks to recruit a full-time Data Analyst to support the Cognitive Health Assessment Metrics Post Positive Screen (CHAMPPS) project to focus on data collection, organization, management, and reporting. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Data Analyst will collaborate with a multi-site team to conduct key research activities, including Epic chart data abstraction. This role involves extracting, validating, and analyzing clinical data from patient records to support study objectives, ensure data quality, and contribute to research deliverables. The Data Analyst will also prepare reports, charts, tables, and other visualizations to effectively communicate findings. Additional responsibilities include building and maintaining quantitative (and potentially, qualitative) databases, supporting project planning, tracking timelines and milestones, and developing  strong professional relationships with internal/external stakeholders. The role may also include other operational/administrative tasks to ensure overall project success. The ideal candidate would have significant experience with chart abstraction, quantitative research, and mixed methods research. We are seeking an individual who is highly collaborative, mission-driven, and has a strong interest in, and ideally background in research related to diverse populations, equity, older adults, and/or dementia care. A successful candidate is highly organized and able to prioritize multiple deadlines and competing tasks. Working with sensitive participant data requires utmost discretion and confidentiality. Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential to this position.

Data Collection and Management Functions

  • Under the direction of the PIs, builds and maintains project databases and data infrastructure (e.g. in REDCap, Qualtrics, and/or Atlas.ti)
  • Conducts structured chart reviews in Epic to extract study-specific data elements
  • Accurately abstract and enter data into research databases (e.g., REDCap)
  • Runs data reports using Epic EHR tools. E.g. workbench, SlicerDicer
  • Perform data validation and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Maintains detailed documentation of data definitions, workflows, and abstraction procedures
  • Identify any discrepancies and resolve data issues in collaboration with the team
  • Helps standardize data collection across collaborating sites (e.g. through standard work documents) to accurately track data collection and management methods
  • Performs literature searches/other research activities to gather data
  • May transcribe qualitative data

Project Implementation and Coordination Functions

  • Collaborates on the design, documentation, testing and implementation of the research project including conducting literature reviews, preparing protocols for IRB applications, and assistance with grant preparation and submission
