The PYPP Coordinator is charged with the responsibility for the management and administration of the
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program contained within the school. The coordinator will work
in conjunction with the District IB Coordinator as well as with the administration, instructional leadership
team and staff at the school-level to ensure the program is operated within the guidelines set forth by the
International Baccalaureate and Chicago Public Schools.
Together with the senior management of the school, the coordinator is involved in the school
implementation of the program. The coordinator maintains contact with the area leaders, school leaders,
subject departments and teachers and with the IB. All IB correspondence regarding the program is
addressed to the coordinator. As a position that is funded by the Department of MGIBAP, it is critical to
the success of the program that this position be wholly-dedicated to program implementation. As such,
to meet the role’s responsibilities, the IB Coordinator must be fully released to focus on the requirements of
the IB and not be given non-IB related assignments. It is also crucial to the success of the program that
pedagogical leadership systems and structures are in place to ensure the success of the coordinator and
the program.
The IB PYP Coordinator will plan and take the steps necessary to continually improve and expand the
Diploma Program within the school, thereby enriching the lives of more students in Chicago Public Schools
through the following:
● Coordination with the Office of Magnet, Gifted, and IB Programs
○ Generate a yearly budget plan – assess budget priorities, and monitor all expenditures.
○ Attend quarterly CPS IB Coordinator meetings.
○ Coordinate all aspects of the IB budget, including writing and submitting the Program
Development/Action Plan to the Office of MGIBAP as well as submitting travel requests to
be approved prior to registration and travel.
○ Provide accurate and timely responses to requests for information by the Office of Magnet,
Gifted, IB Programs.
● Coordination with School Administration
○ Ensure the Head of School is informed of IB Program developments and concerns.
○ The school has systems and processes in place to document, share and store curriculum,
policies and procedures that safeguard programme implementation.
○ Act as a liaison between the IB Program and the Local School Council.
○ Maintain familiarity with IB regulations as published and updated annually in the Handbook
of Procedures and supplemented bimonthly in
