About the role
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant plays a fundamental role in the maintenance of internal controls within the organization. Utilizing the Museum’s financial and ticketing systems, s/he will manage the Museum’s general ledger accounting processes, subledger reconciliations and other financial reporting functions. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Accountant will help the organization maintain financial integrity and play a pivotal role in advancing the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

The Senior Accountant plays a fundamental role in the maintenance of internal controls within the organization. Utilizing the Museum’s financial and ticketing systems, s/he will manage the Museum’s general ledger accounting processes, subledger reconciliations and other financial reporting functions. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Accountant will help the organization maintain financial integrity and play a pivotal role in advancing the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Director of Accounting maintain and document the Museum’s internal controls and financial processes.
- Manage the organization’s general ledger accounting processes by recording transactions, posting debits and credits.
- Manage month end close process through the completion of account reconciliations and various month end close procedures.
- Prepare monthly deliverables such as rollforwards and financial reporting schedules.
- Manage the organization’s accounts receivable function, ensuring timely booking and depositing of payments and appropriate collections efforts.
- Oversight and review of the credit card reconciliation prepared by AP specialist
- Serve as back-up for the administration of the organization’s bi-weekly payroll process.
- Serve as back-up for the organization’s accounts payable process.
- Manage support for external auditors and preparers of tax returns, including preparing information required for annual organizational audits.
- Assist Director of Accounting in filing all accounting and finance documents.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with established accounting policies and procedures and in accordance with GAAP
- Demonstrate leadership in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience. Prior experience in a cultural or entertainment attraction is desired.
- Experience with Sage Intact and Blackline Systems preferred.
- Experience with Galaxy ticketing system is highly preferred.
- Experience with Toast POS is preferred.
- Robust understanding of financial and accounting practices within the non-profit sector is a plus.
- Prior experience in financial reporting.
- Demonstrated familiarity with general ledger accounting processes.
- Strong technical skills in Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Exceptional judgment and trustworthiness.
- High integrity and ethical character; ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
- Ability to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain good working relationships with clients and coworkers.
