The YMCA of Orange County is looking to hire a year-round Kid Zone Assistant. This position is responsible for the YMCA Kids Zone program including implementation of health & safety standards, program quality, supervision of children, meeting programmatic standards, and customer service.
Schedule:
Must be available Monday to Friday 8:15 am - 11:45 am and Saturdays 7:45 am - 11:45 am.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure health & safety standards are met daily (i.e. opening/closing checks, excluding ill children, sanitizing toys, removing possible dangers).
- Report incidents promptly, including mandatory child abuse reporting.
- Be prepared for emergencies and carryout assigned responsibilities during incidents.
- Provide supervision that is visual, proactive and interactive. Monitor headcounts and ratios.
- Implement age-appropriate child guidance practices.
- Perform light cleaning tasks and assist with setting up and taking down activity areas.
- Follow posted activity calendars and schedules. Be prepared to lead activities daily.
- Follow enrollment and attendance procedures outlined in Kid Zone Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to members and follow up on concerns.
- Engage members in other Y activities and Kid Zone Programs.
- Facilitate member involvement through volunteer participation and development.
- Build professional relationships with members and staff. Model Y values to others.
- Participate in branch and department events and meetings as assigned.
- Carry out all duties in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Hiring Criteria
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.
Experience & Certifications:

CPR and First Aid certification (taught and paid for by YMCA).

Must be at least 16 years of age with a valid work permit.

2 years previous work experience with children ages 6 weeks to 11 years preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
-
Excellent verbal communication skills & strong customer and results orientation.

Ability to interact effectively at all ages, levels, and across diverse cultures.

Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
