Description

 

The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a dynamic individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of persons with substance addiction and to encourage/motivate individuals in their recovery to work towards treatment goals. Selected candidates in this role will provide supervision to staff including, but not limited to, coordination of assignments, planning/monitoring shift schedules, scheduling training sessions for staff or clients, maintaining supplies and equipment and enforcing policies, rules and regulations.

The Recovery Treatment Worker II provides direct care services to clients by assisting individuals in performing daily living functions: executing behavioral programs, assisting in planning and organizing recreational, social, instructional or special activities, attending treatment meetings, accompanying clients to appointments and providing medication support. Incumbents utilize motivational skills to encourage participation in activities and will be required to participate in restraint/seclusion as directed by nursing/psychiatry staff and per DMH regulations to ensure the safety of clients and staff.

 

Please Note: The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week on 3rd shift (11:00PM - 7:00AM), with Friday and Saturday as the days off.

 

Employees in this position will be required to work mandatory overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Supervises staff and evaluates performance to ensure a high level of quality care; participates in the regular supervision and progressive disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Conducts and participates in admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Supports client’s individual needs/preferences by optimally integrating the client’s perspective into all facets of care; advocates for clients ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Completes staff assignment sheets and duty logs as required.
  • Monitors staff scheduling to ensure proper coverage including vacancies per agreed overtime procedure.
  • Facilitates timely resolution of client concerns and assists in the exercise of their human rights.
  • Partners with clients to develop individual therapeutic goals and objectives, through consultation, evaluation, review of client history or observation.
  • Conducts training with staff/clients addressing services available; provides instructions on participation in sporting events, crafts, arts, or other activities.
  • Documents observations of client care through routine reports as directed and ensures proper follow-up.
  • Participates in admission, transfers, and discharge process by collecting and recording appropriate information and providing physical/emotional support to the client.
  • Provides an active role in monitoring daily problems and interventions; mediates issues among clients and attends meetings to make decisions.
  • Accompanies patients to various appointments, programs, and treatment areas and assists professional or medical staff as needed.  

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with clients with primary substance use disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of techniques related to the use of restraint and seclusion; including restraint and seclusion reduction principles comprising skills related to prevention, de-escalation, and debriefing.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction and medication (and other assisted therapies).
  • Familiarity with HIPAA Regulations and Federal Regulations 42 CFR Part 2 and Part 8.
