The Inventory Planner is responsible for managing and optimizing inventory levels to ensure product availability while minimizing excess stock, obsolescence, and carrying costs. This role plays a vital part in supporting production, procurement, and field service teams by ensuring accurate stock levels, demand forecasting, and material flow. The Inventory Planner collaborates closely with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and finance to ensure alignment between inventory strategies and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor inventory levels across raw materials, sub-assemblies, finished goods, and field service parts to ensure optimal stock levels and availability.
- Perform regular analysis of inventory to identify excess, obsolete, and slow-moving items (E&O), and recommend disposition strategies.
- Collaborate with procurement to support clear-to-build reporting and ensure material availability aligns with production and service requirements.
- Analyze demand trends and historical usage to forecast inventory needs and support procurement planning.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and warehouse teams to track inventory accuracy, bin locations, and stock transfers.
- Assist with daily transactions related to work orders, inventory adjustments, bin transfers, cycle counts, and reconciliation efforts.
- Maintain ERP system accuracy for part status, lead times, and stocking strategies.
- Generate reports and dashboards on inventory performance metrics, including turns, days on hand, and fill rates.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory accuracy, reduce waste, and streamline stock handling processes.
- Support daily standups with relevant inventory insights, using QDIP methodology.
- Work with cross-functional teams to support new product introductions, end-of-life transitions, and field stock planning.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field. (Relevant experience may substitute for education.)
- 2+ years of experience in inventory planning, materials management, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of inventory control, warehouse operations, and supply chain principles.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills across cross-functional teams.
- This position requires occasional lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidates should be comfortable squatting and bending while performing these tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP) is a plus.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
