The Revenue Strategy team is excited to announce an opening of this position.  In this role, you will be part of a team of subject matter experts in load research, utility forecasting, pricing and data analytics. You will proactively engage with other peers, managers, directors across SMUD and consultants to analyze data relevant to load forecast, distributed energy resources (DERs), customer programs, and innovative rate designs.

 

The team is responsible for the development and completion of SMUD’s sales and long-term load forecasting initiatives, playing a critical role in creating forecasting outlooks in support of the clean energy vision.  As a senior market analyst, you will be developing the load forecast and be a technical liaison between SMUD and external consultants, ensuring alignment and collaboration across all levels. Your work in this area plays a highly visible role in utility’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan.

 

You will leverage an abundance of AMI load data using SAS and Metrix ND to lead analytical work.  Your responsibilities include the advanced development of regression models for energy, demand, incorporate future DERs into the forecasting scenarios, and high levels of collaborations with Pricing, Budget Office, Information Technology, Enterprise Strategy and Customer and Grid Strategy.

Purpose

Provide analysis and technical support for producing the customer, load and demand forecasts, load research and related analysis, and program evaluations.

Nature and Scope

This is the senior/subject matter expert level within the Market Analyst classification series. Incumbents work independently on projects of moderate complexity; exercise independent judgment and discretion; may serve in a lead role and assist in planning, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and evaluating the work results in assigned area and in selecting, training, motivating, evaluating and developing lower-level personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops long-term customer, load and demand forecasts, program evaluations, and load analysis.
  • Oversees design and development of databases to support load research and analysis.
  • Evaluates, procures and coordinates various analytical modeling tools to facilitate modeling and evaluation activities.
  • Provides direction and training to subordinates for completion of assigned tasks by administering SMUD policies; planning, coordinating, prioritizing, evaluating and adjusting work functions, practices, and schedules; monitoring daily operations to ensure overall work quality, quantity and efficiency following established procedures and standards; ensuring staff safety and implementation of safety policies and practices in the work unit and environment; assisting subordinates as required; coaching, giving performance feedback, and identifying and resolving staff deficiencies; providing recommendations to management on staffing, discipline and termination actions, and staff training and development; and performing ongoing, assigned operational tasks.
  • Assists in the developing and administering the unit budget by monitoring budget expenditures in area of responsibility against plan; participating in identifying and reconciling budget anomalies; monitoring and revising schedules, expenditures and assignments as warranted; reviewing end-of-year budget results; developing area-of-responsibility budget recommendations for the next fiscal year; and participating in the review of preliminary unit budget recommendations.
  • Guides the administration of internal/external projects by assisting in identifying project objectives; identifying internal/external project team within area of responsibility; assisting in the development of Request for Proposals where applicable; participating in developing project plans including schedule, cost, key work products, and milestones; monitoring project progress and completion in area of responsibility against plan/contract; monitoring and revising schedules, scope, expenditures and assignments as warranted; reviewing work products; assisting in resolving conflicts and discrepancies; maintaining project records and files; and participating in the overall review of the completed project results and making recommendations for next steps.
