About the role

Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital.  The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients as a member of the Department of Surgery - Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.

Position Highlights:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.

  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.

  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.

  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.

  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.

  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.

  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment vascular surgery patients in a primarily inpatient environment.

  • Writes accurate and timely H&Ps, progress notes, consult notes, procedure notes, discharge summaries and/or admission, discharge and transfer orders.

  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.

  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the vascular surgery services, such as, but not exclusive to, wound care and drain management.

  • Management in perioperative period.

  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.

  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

  • Develops an expertise in the coordination and delivery of care to patients on the vascular surgery service.

  • Collaborates with cross-department specialty care teams as well as primary care providers in consultative care of patients with vascular surgery needs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner                                                       

    • Wisconsin RN License 

    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License 

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Asso
