About the role

The Associate Director – Policy & Workplace Relations is a leadership role with responsibility for a dedicated team of workplace relations and case management experts providing expert advice and support to RMIT’s People Leaders with the aim of delivering a consistent people experience and ensuring RMIT people perform at their best.

The role presents an opportunity for an experience people and service leader to work with the Director of Policy & Workplace Relations and broader People Leadership Team to shape the evolution of the function with a focus on ensuring efficiency and consistency across service delivery whilst balancing employment risk and the implementation of pragmatic case management practices.

The Associate Director will partner with the team and directly with people leaders to collaboratively manage complex grievances, workplace investigations, underperformance cases, conduct cases, terminations, protracted injury, and illness matters, conflict resolution, industrial disputes and RMIT representation in the Fair Work Commission as required. 

Success in this position will require:

  • Strong people leadership skills:  A demonstrated track record of building, leading and developing teams of specialist professionals.

  • Extensive case management experience: Demonstrable experience as a senior human resources leader with employee relations & case management experience and expertise.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement & influencing skills: Demonstrated experience engaging, coaching and upskilling leaders and HR practitioners in people issues management.

  • Commercial acumen in decision making and advice, supported by a demonstrated record of success in providing a high level of advice and support at an executive level relating to industrial matters.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A collaborative workstyle: Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in comparable organizational settings with decentralised decision-making authority and a diverse range of operational needs and priorities.

  • Whilst not essential, formal qualifications and experience in employment law and industrial relations are preferable.
