Position Summary

The Engineer position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems.   Duties include Engineering responsibilities to supports maintenance and production departments with problem solving and program/project execution in order to reduce down time, improve process and lower operating costs by effectively applying Reliability Asset Management methods and predictive/preventive maintenance programs for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our generation plants.  These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development  
  • Evaluates and recommends new standards, products, and/or services
  • Recommends and implements improvements to processes and procedures
  • May include limited supervisory responsibilities, including lower level engineers
  • Makes frequent independent decisions and recommendations that affect the section, department, and/or division
  • Participates in and provides input to area budget
  • Actively works within financial objectives set by management
  • Discipline expert to mentor and develop employees
  • Signs and seals required own engineering work and engineering work by staff under his/her oversight
  • Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university
  • Working knowledge of power plant systems and utilization of that knowledge to solve existing power plant problems
  • Working knowledge of Reliability Processes.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) Certification.
  • Experience in the electric utility business

Minimum Education

Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering field from an ABET accredited four-year college or university

Required Certifications

Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas

Working Environment

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
