Description

If you are a team player with a passion to drive your career in Structural Engineering, Popli Design Group (PDG) is the place for you! PDG is seeking a Junior Engineer to add to our growing and talented team. 


As a Junior Engineer you will work within synergistic, multidisciplinary design project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer. Assignments may include design and analysis, modelling/drafting, preparing plans and specifications, technical report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. Projects are typically in the municipal and academic/institutional sectors and range from new construction and large additions to structural investigations, condition assessments, capacity analysis, renovation, rehabilitation and strengthening of existing structures.


The perfect candidate should have familiarity with mathematical and engineering principles, experience with software like Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM, and knowledge of structural analysis tools such as STAAD Pro or RAM. Understanding design codes like NYS Building Code, ASCE-7, ACI, and AISC is important. Strong communication, technical, and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail, are necessary. You should be eager to learn and embrace technology for improved workflows, work well in a collaborative environment, and possess self-management abilities. 


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of structural analysis models and calculation packages to support the structural design of various structure types under the guidance and support of licensed Engineers.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical engineering documents, design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive drawing packages using Revit, BIM and/or AutoCAD.
  • Assist in coordinating with internal or external project staff, clients and/or governmental agencies to fulfill the needs of the project and acquire all necessary approvals.
  • Perform review of self-work for completeness in accordance with company, industry, and/or client design standards in advance of peer reviews.
  • May be required to travel within New York State for project design investigations and/or construction support oversight.

Skills

  • Familiarity with mathematical and engineering principles.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, BIM, Mathcad, spreadsheet tools, etc.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software, STAAD Pro, RAM or similar.
  • Familiarity with design codes, NYS Building Code, ASCE-7, ACI, AISC, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Desire to learn and embrace technology to improve workflows and internal design process.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work in a collaborative office setting.
  • Strong self-management skills including organization, time management, and follow-up.
  • Desire to embrace and adhere to the PDG Quality culture in all aspects of design.
  • Understand basic safety requirements and motivation to uphold PDG safety culture.

Experience, Education, and Certification

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering (including structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design).
  • 1-3 years of experience.
  • EIT License, or ability to obtain EIT is preferable.
