Childbirth is one of life’s most special moments. Patients deserve to have a voice in the care they and their baby receive, and Mercy Hospital’s 2A 2C Maternity Unit ensures their voices are heard. This unit strives to give patients the birth experience they want, which may include developing birth plans, skin-to-skin contact, different labor and birthing positions, delayed umbilical cord clamping, focus on the Golden Hour, and more. As an RN on the Labor and Delivery team, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will circulate and scrub in the Operating Room, train in the OB Emergency Department and cross-train to post-partum, allowing you to interact directly with mom, baby and their families.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. + on call with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide direct nursing care. 
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.  
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  
  • Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 
  • Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program) 
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within one year of hire 
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
  • NICU experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires stand
