Position Summary:
Oklahoma City University invites applications for the Assistant Professor in Production Management position beginning August 2026. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position located in the heart of Oklahoma City. The successful candidate will join our professional artistic community with teaching and mentoring duties in production management, stage management, and/or other potential areas within the candidate’s expertise.
Responsibilities include management and coordination of productions and special events in the School of Theatre and the Bass School of Music. An MFA is required for a tenure-track appointment. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and relevant professional experience could be considered for the position at an appointment with a non-tenure track status.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA in Production Management, Stage Management, Technical Direction, or related field (MFA required for tenure-track appointment)
- Experience in production management, arts management, and/or related field
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and relevant production software
Preferred Qualifications:
- University-level teaching experience
- 2 or more years of Production Manager experience in a university and/or professional organizations
- Working knowledge of AEA, IATSE, USA, & SDC agreement
Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Requirements
- Serve as Production Manager for the School of Theatre, the Bass School of Music, and other series/productions supported by the Design & Production program
- Teach 1-2 classes per semester in Production Management, Stage Management, and/or other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise
- Assist in mentoring student stage managers for on-campus and selected off-campus professional partnership productions
- Actively participate in School of Theatre recruitment and retention activities including travel to regional and/or national interview events
- Service on school & university committees
- Excellence in teaching is the primary factor in successful promotion and tenure decision making; maintaining a professional profile who can connect the profession to the classroom is also valued
Production Manager Duties:
- Create and manage production calendars in coordination with area heads
- Oversee and coordinate scheduling of theatrical spaces and rehearsal halls/studios in the School of Theatre and Bass School of Music
- Collaborate with faculty and administrators in the development of season calendars and the season selection process
- Supervise production meetings and design meetings
- Attendance at and coordination of technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals
- Create and administer online production callboard sites
- Supervise student assistant production managers
- Coordinate special events in theatre spaces and rehearsal halls/studios
- Collaborate on production budget development
- Draft contracts for selected guest artists and designers
- Manage scheduling, deadlines, and technical rehearsals for summer productions in OCU performance spaces

The School of Theatre offers comprehensive and diverse undergraduate-focused programs with tracks in professional and applied theatre training. We offer a BFA in Acting, BFA in Design and Production, and a BA in Theatre Innovation & Entrepreneurship in a program that has gained a national reputation and currently has a steady population of around 200 majors. The School of Theatre is a part of the Margaret E. Petree College of Performing Arts which includes the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment and the Wanda L. Bass School of Music.
The Design and Production area supports the mainstage and studio productions for the School of Theatre and the Opera & Musical Theatre program within the Bass School of Music.
